In his later years my father, Geoff, was coerced by the family into putting into print some of the highlights of his life involvement in the essential oil industry. Under the title “Some volatile thoughts on the Davis family’s connection with essential oils” Geoff recorded various stories and events, mainly from the early days. This included time spent on expeditions with the likes of AR Penfold (now credited as the “father” of the Australian Tea Tree Oil industry, and Ernest Guenther, author of the world renown 6 volume set, “The Essential Oils”). For this edition of Distill we have extracted a story from 1967, “The Guenther Incident”. Sometime after his return to New York Guenther sent Geoff a copy of his “Report from the Far East” in which he had included a description of the same trip to West Wyalong. We still have the Report and have included it in this Newsletter – I hope you enjoy the story (both versions) as much as we do!
